Cage the Elephant Returns with New Single and Festival Dates
Repost from Tour Life Mag [defunct]

Indie-rock group Cage the Elephant has returned from their five-year recording hiatus with a new single titled “Neon Pill.” Fans hope that this will lead to a new album and tour dates.
The band's last album release was in 2019 when they released and toured for Social Cues, which featured hits like “Black Madonna” and the title track “Social Cues.” The group frequented some festivals between 2019 and 2022, before taking a complete break in 2023 after lead singer Matt Schultz fell on some hard times.
“Neon Pill” seems to replicate the styles of the songs off of Social Cues and Tell Me I’m Pretty, which are the band’s two most recent albums. While some fans are welcoming this newer sound, others are disappointed that the older sounds of their first few albums are being left behind. There has been a clear shift from the band’s original style of more acoustic, folk-sounding guitar riffs and drum beats in favor of a more, almost electronic, pop sound. The single features a catchy chorus, heavy-driving drum beat, and bass line.
Before the announcement of the release of “Neon Pill,” the band appeared on the 2024 lineups for Hangout Fest and Bonnaroo, so fans suspected that new music was soon to follow. There has been further speculation from fan forums that the band will be releasing their sixth album following this single and that the album will take the name of this new release.
